Rick Riordan
Rick Riordan, born on June 5, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas, is an American author best known for his wildly popular young adult fantasy series. Before becoming a full-time writer, Riordan worked as a middle school English and history teacher, where he found inspiration for his stories from the myths and legends he taught in class.
Riordan's breakthrough came with the publication of "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" in 2005. The novel follows the adventures of Percy Jackson, a young demigod and son of Poseidon, as he navigates the world of Greek mythology and battles monsters alongside his friends at Camp Half-Blood. The success of "The Lightning Thief" led to the expansion of the "Percy Jackson" series, which includes five main novels and several spin-off series, such as "The Heroes of Olympus," "The Trials of Apollo," and "The Kane Chronicles."
Known for his witty writing style, engaging characters, and clever blend of modern-day settings with ancient mythology, Riordan has captured the hearts of readers worldwide. His books have been praised for their fast-paced plots, relatable protagonists, and imaginative reinterpretations of classic myths.
In addition to the "Percy Jackson" series, Riordan has written several other successful middle-grade and young adult series, including "The Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard" series, inspired by Norse mythology, and "The Kane Chronicles," which explores Egyptian mythology.
Outside of his writing career, Riordan is a passionate advocate for literacy and education. He and his wife founded the Read Riordan campaign, which aims to inspire children to become lifelong readers by providing access to diverse and engaging literature.
With his captivating storytelling and ability to bring ancient myths to life for a modern audience, Rick Riordan continues to enchant readers of all ages and inspire a new generation of mythologists.
