Blogging 101: Write Your About Me Page

Now you’ve got your homepage sorted and branding is all up to scratch. Let’s make sure your about me page is informative, yet fun and helps whoever wants to know you better to get something from it. It also needs to be set up well for any potential opportunities from brands.

One Liner

Creating a one liner for your about page gives the read a quick overview of who you are before they delve into the rest of the page. You can use the tagline from when you created your brand to help with this. It’s perfect for people in PR who can’t spend too much time reading through every single blog they find.

Brand Story?

Giving your blog a story helps people to understand why you’re blogging. You can use your mission and vision and what you offer as a USP from the branding before to create a well written paragraph about what you blog is and how it came to be.

About You!

At the end of the day, your blog is an extension of you. So you should add in some details about yourself so readers can relate to you, and just know who you are as a person. You can include your job, what you study at school, what your other hobbies are that may not be reflected in your blog. Just try to get a bit more personal than what you’re usually writing about.

Location

If you’re anything like me, you will try to follow more people in your immediate region because you know content will arrive when you’re also awake. So giving your general location is good for people to know you more. It’s also (again) helpful for PR contacts to know which country you’re in as they may only work in one market or be able to pay in one currency.

Demographic Data

This is another one of those parts that are more important to anyone in PR who will be looking at your blog. If you want opportunities, you need to advertise the same target audience as those brands. For example, I mainly have females from the age of 18 – 34, so products for 60 year old men won’t fit my brand.

Photo

Ensure you have a high res photo of yourself on your about me page if you don’t have one in your side bar. If you want to be more personal, it’s good for people to have an idea as to what you look like.

  • Think that I'm gonna review a bit my introduction page. I've always been bad at this, even if I've been blogging since quite of time.
There are things that are just not for me XD

    • Honestly I hate writing anything about myself - I had to do a 2000 word reflective report today for uni and it was awful! Some people are just a lot better than others when writing about themselves 😂
