Ingredient Benefits

Butylene Glycol is a solvent, viscosity-decreasing agent and a conditioner. This helps reduce the product from drying out and works well in anti-aging products as it helps retain moisture.

Citric Acid contains high levels of Vitamin, Folic Acid and Vitamin B, as well as minerals like magnesium, calcium and phosphorus. It is an alpha hydroxy acid used in personal care products to adjust the acidity or promote skin peeling and re-growth in the case of anti-aging products.

Dimethicone is a type of silicon that aids the product to glide onto your skin and also acts as a barrier after application. Dimethicone is used to protect mild skin irritations, dry patches or healing wounds, and is effective at locking in moisture thanks to its larger molecules.

Ethylhexyl Palmitate is an organic replacement to silicone. It is used to adjust the consistency of products as it has a dry slip feel.

Glycerin promotes skin cell maturation which can help fight effects of skin problems such as psoriasis whilst improving the appearance of skin in general. It is a humecant and helps the skin maintain it’s moisture which in turn makes the skin look healthier.

Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 helps to stablise and thicken water-based emulsions, ensuring moisture without a sticky feel on the skin.

Sodium Benzoate is used as a preservative to prevent the formula from spoiling and to extend its shelf life.

Squalene has emollient properties that helps retain moisture as well as enhance the penetration of other ingredients.

Water helps improve product consistency and spreadability, helps improve ingredient penetration and absorption.

Caprylyl Glycol works as a humectant and skin conditioning agent in moisturising and emollience products. It also has anti-microbial properties which makes it great for moisturisers, sunscreens, anti-aging treatments and cleansers.

Hyaluronic Acid has the ability to replenish the moisture in the skin as well as helping revitalise the skin’s outer layer, making it look soft and smooth.

Parfum (Fragrance) is one of the most irritating and allergenic ingredients. It can trigger allergies, asthma, eczema, headaches, hives, irritations, nausea or psoriasis.

A preservative used to prevent formulas from spoiling.
Potassium Sorbate is a natural chelating agent which works with preservatives to prevent formulas from becoming rancid and to prevent contamination.

First Thoughts

Quite honestly, the packaging for the sample (kind-of, it’s larger than an average sample) made me believe this was a hand cream. For months, I hadn’t picked this up to open because I didn’t realise it was serum.

Fortunately, when I sorted out my skincare cupboards I realised this was in fact, a serum and that it should be good for my skin. My first thoughts on it before applying was that the ingredients list contained lots of hydrating elements. This was a bonus for me, as I had been struggling with dry patches on my forehead.

I found that it smelt a little bit like The Body Shop’s Aloe Mask. I wasn’t sure if I liked this or not, but it does go well with claims that it’s hydrating.

During Use

The first thing I noticed was how liquid the consistency of the product is. From the packaging, I expected something a lot thicker like the Nip&Fab Serum but this product is very similar to other serums I’ve used.

Because of the formula being very liquid, it’s extremely easy to spread across your entire face and neck. The easy application makes it a quick addition to your skincare routine, and a little really goes a long way. For this reason, I think Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum is a good option for a quick routine or a travel routine.

With some serums, like The Ordinary’s Buffet and The Body Shop’s Drops of Youth I found that it created a refreshing feeling on the skin. I didn’t feel like this had the same effect, however I may pop it in the fridge and try it again.

After Use

Immediately after applying my skin felt a bit tacky to the touch for about 10 minutes. However, once it was fully absorbed my skin felt smooth and soft. Was it glowy or dewey though? Not particularly. My skin looked hydrated but it was defintely not #goals for dewey skin.

Fortunately, it didn’t have an adverse effects for sensitive skin with the use of fragrance. Plus, I did feel like my skin was more moistursed than when not using a serum – however I could have got similar effects from probably any other serum too.

Would I Re-Purchase Caudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum?

Probably not. For me, it just doesn’t do anything different to other serums I’ve tried, and would prefer Drops of Youth or Buffet.
