Clinique Moisture Surge Review | Instantly Hydrate Your Skin For a Dewey Finish

As I suffer with dry patches and eczema, Clinique Moisture Surge sounds like my kind of product. I also have a sample of the sister product, Clinique Moisture Surge Intense but chose to try this one first. Comparing this to other Clinique moisturisers also intrigued me as I wasn’t sure which one would be best for me. Although,  I feel like this one is supposed to be more of an ant-aging product due to the plumping of fine lines and tightness.

Main Ingredients and their Benefits

Cyclopentasiloxane is used as a conditioner, delivery agent, lubricant and solvent. It helps the product spread over the skin well as it is a silicone and acts as a protective barrier. It can also help fill in fine lines and wrinkles making the skin look plumper.

Glycerin promotes skin cell maturation which can help fight effects of skin problems such as psoriasis whilst improving the appearance of skin in general. It is a humecant and helps the skin maintain it’s moisture which in turn makes the skin look healthier.

Butylene Glycol is a solvent, viscosity-decreasing agent and a conditioner. This helps reduce the product from drying out and works well in anti-aging products as it helps retain moisture.

Dimethicone is a type of silicon that aids the product to glide onto your skin and also acts as a barrier after application. Dimethicone is used to protect mild skin irritations, dry patches or healing wounds, and is effective at locking in moisture thanks to its larger molecules.

Cetyl Ethylhexanoate works as an emollient, conditioner and thickening agent. It removes the appearance of dry patches and gives the skin a smoother look. It also assists the product by increasing spreadability.

Squalene has emollient properties that helps retain moisture as well as enhance the penetration of other ingredients.

Caffeine is used in skincare to improve the look of cellulite and puffiness around the eyes. Although, there’s a mixed scientific response as to whether it is effective.

First Thoughts

I was initially worried that the product would be too heavy and greasy as it’s meant to be extremely moisturisng. This is always a worry as even though I have dry skin, I also stuggle with breakouts and blocked pores. I was also hesitant with how much I was needing to use as it’s in a tub. But I learnt quickly that a little goes a long way.

During Use

When using it I realised immediately that you only need the smallest amount as it spreads easily over your face. It’s application is easy and the formula didn’t feel too heavy or greasy once using it. It does take a few minutes to absorb and so before applying makeup I often brush out my hair and clean my teeth to give it some time.

After Use

Once finished my skin is left feeling smooth and soft. It’s not greasy at all and there’s no excess left on your skin as it’s fully absorbed. It even helped make the area between my brows feel smooth where it normally feels dry. I usually get a lot of blackheads around here which weren’t worsened by Clinique Moisture Surge either.

Would I Purchase Again?

As I’m only 21 I don’t currently see any use of the reducing fine lines part of this moisturiser. Because of this I think I would be more likely to purchase a different Clinique product like the Dramatically Different Lotion. This isn’t anything to do with Clinique Moisture Surge being a bad product, it’s just not one that is for my skin at this moment in time.
