Post-Lockdown London Staycation | What’s on My Bucket List? | UK Travel Destinations | AD

It’s been almost a year of being stuck inside my own flat and I can’t help but start to make plans and bucket lists for all the places I want to visits, and things I want to do. One of the places I want to explore more is London. Since I’ve moved down south, London is basically on my doorstep but I just avoided going into the city – and this has got to change!

Whether it’s taking a train in on my days off or booking a hotel for a weekend, I’m hoping to get the chance to see all the things on my bucket list. This post has been created in collaboration with Hotels.com, but all views are my own.

Royal Albert Hall

One of the things I was looking forward to in 2020 was going to experience The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in concert as part of the Royal Albert Hall’s Film in Concert series.Unfortunately that got postponed, and has since been re-scheduled for 2022. I’m looking forward to both the concert as well as seeing Royal Albert Hall which is one of the more iconic buildings in Kensington.

Museums and Art Galleries

Growing up my family would always take me to explore museums and galleries and I would love to see the collections in London. The Natural History Museum is huge and whilst I’ve already been I still have even more rooms I didn’t get a chance to explore. I have a very similar relationship with the British Museum which I have visited but didn’t get the chance to fully explore. I’ve also wanted to go to the Tate Modern, I’ve been to the Liverpool counterpart but my aunt has been telling me I have to visit the one in London too.

Bus Tour

Yes I know it may sound extremely touristy, but a hop-on hop-off bus tour is such a good way to explore a city. I went on a bus tour in my home city of Newcastle to show my friend around and it was so easy to get to all the places I wanted to show her, without needing to worry about which public transport would be best. There’s all the iconic landmarks of the city along these tours and a ticket usually comes with someone talking through the history, a boat trip on the Thames and a walking tour too. It’s a great way to get some good photos around the city, as you can just sit back and relax.

Bookshop Tour of London

Back at the start of 2020, I did go on a bookshop tour of London but I would love to do this again and explore more areas. I went into the city once in that brief period of no lockdown, and I found a couple around Hackney that I’d not even seen on the map before. So I want to start exploring as many different boroughs for indie bookshops as I can.

Food and Restaurants

London is a city filled with restaurants of all different cuisines and as someone who loves eating food this is a brilliant incentive. I’d love to explore the city for new restaurants (that aren’t just chains!) that have great food that I can then recommend to friends and family.

National Trust in London

When you think of National Trust up North you may think of vast open spaces, gardens and land. In London, there’s not quite the same amount of gardens and greenery, but there’s plenty of houses to explore all over the city. From Georgian and Victorian, to even more modern properties there’s definitely a call for getting a National Trust membership for a year and trying to visit as many as I can.

Are there any other places you think I should explore in London?
