Classics
A classic is a novel that represents a writing style (i.e. gothic) or genre (i.e. horror) or it is a novel that contributes to literature as a medium. Classics come from all different cultures and time periods, and many of the classics you may immediately think of reflect specific time periods, societal standards or offer commentary of specific subjects.
Modern classics are books being produced in the modern era, which contribute to literature or reflect on our "modern" time period and society in the same way authors like Jane Austen and Charles Dicken's did.
Classics is NOT a genre itself and often classic books fall under genres like romance, horror and mystery. However for easy categorisation of books on Uptown Oracle, I will often include a "Classic" tag to easily showcase that the book I'm talking about is important to literature in some way. In this way myself and many others use "Classics" as a category of books, especially for marketing and selling of novels.
