Some sequels drag on a story that should’ve ended but these? These are the ones I’d fight dragons to read… They promise deeper magic, bigger betrayals, and a return to worlds I can’t stop thinking about. Here are fantasy sequels I’m genuinely excited for, bring on the heartbreak, plot twists, and chaos!
👑 1. Queen Demon (The Rising World #2) by Martha Wells — Available 7 October 2025
Ancient demons, rebellious spirits, and Wells’ signature twisty plots, the sequel to Witch King is bound to be epic, messy, and full of dark magic.

🔥 2. Among the Burning Flowers (The Roots of Chaos #3) by Samantha Shannon — Available 11 September 2025
More dragons, more sapphic knights, and more heartache? Yes please. The Roots of Chaos world keeps getting richer and I can’t wait for another doorstopper of dragons and queens.

🗝️ 3. Alecto the Ninth (The Locked Tomb #4) by Tamsyn Muir — Expected TBC
Necromancers in space, memes as prophecy, and plot twists that melt your brain. It’s been a wild ride and this final instalment promises total chaos (and heartbreak).

⚔️ 4. The Strength of the Few by James Islington — Available 11 November 2025
Islington’s sweeping worldbuilding and moral complexity made The Will of the Many so addictive and the next volume promises more war, magic, and world-shattering secrets.

🕰️ 5. The Winds of Winter by George R.R. Martin — ???
Yes, I know. But when it finally arrives, we’re dropping everything. Ice, fire, betrayals, we’re ready to have our hearts broken all over again. Again.

😈 6. The Devils Sequel by Joe Abercrombie — Expected TBC
No one does grimdark banter and backstabbing like Abercrombie. His next volume promises more, double-crosses, and that bleak, brilliant sense of humour.
Whether it’s necromancers in space, dragons on the march, or the Starks facing the winds of winter (finally?) these sequels remind me why I love long, messy, endlessly surprising fantasy series.
